Why Fire Protection Matters

Fire protection in buildings isn't simply about buying something labelled "fireproof paint".

Different substrates and projects can require different approaches, and products can be tested and classified for very specific applications.

In Ireland, Part B of the Building Regulations deals with Fire Safety. The Department of Housing's Technical Guidance Document B provides guidance on meeting the requirements for areas including means of escape, internal fire spread, external fire spread and access for fire services. The Department also states that primary responsibility for Building Regulations compliance rests with building designers, builders and owners.

That makes proper product selection and specification particularly important for commercial and professional projects.

What is Zeroflame?

Zeroflame produces specialist fire retardant and fire resistant coating systems for different substrates and applications.

Rather than one product being used for everything, the range includes different systems depending on what needs to be protected.

For example, Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment is a clear, waterborne impregnation treatment for solid timber. According to Zeroflame's technical documentation, it is classified to BS EN 13501-1:2018, achieves European Class B-s2,d0 on the specified solid-wood substrate, and can be used internally and externally.

This is exactly why it is worth speaking to someone before ordering a specialist fire protection product.

Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment

For projects involving solid timber, Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment provides a clear treatment designed to help prevent the spread of fire.

One of its major advantages is appearance. Zeroflame states that the treatment leaves no visible finish, helping timber retain its natural appearance.

We have listed both the 5L and 20L options, giving you a choice depending on the scale of your project.

Zeroflame AquaSteel 1001

Zeroflame AquaSteel 1001 is a thin film, waterborne intumescent coating designed for structural steel in internal environments.

Zeroflame states that the system is designed to provide 30 and 60 minutes fire resistance on structural steel and is used in accordance with EN 13381-8:2013. It can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray and dries to a matt white finish.

For internal timber where retaining the appearance of the wood is important, Zeroflame Wood C is another option in the range.

It is a translucent, halogen free, waterborne intumescent coating. Zeroflame states that Wood C is classified to EN 13501-1 and achieves European Class B-s1,d0 on the specified wood and wood based substrates. It is intended for light coloured wood and can be used with Zeroflame Topcoat C where increased durability is required.

Topcoat W is a waterborne finish coat for Zeroflame's pigmented fire retardant coatings, excluding Wood C. Zeroflame offers Topcoat W in matt and satin finishes and states that it has been fire tested for use in conjunction with its pigmented fire retardant coatings.

Our range includes Topcoat C Matt, Topcoat C Satin and Topcoat W Matt and Satin options.
