A family store with a story.
An award-winning, family run business in the heart of Enniscorthy town, at the foothill of Vinegar Hill and along Ireland’s Ancient East.
From Peter Smyths to Smyths Homevalue.
Jack and Anna Kavanagh purchased the property from the Smyth family in 1979, when it was known as Peter Smyths.
The store was run by Jack and Anna with the help of their eight children for the next 20 years. In 1990, their son Dermot and his wife Betty took over the shop and continue to run it today.
While the name has changed over the years, many customers still know us as Peter Smyths. That name remains proudly displayed on the Rafter Street entrance.
Rooted in Enniscorthy.
Our shop began as a small 1,000 sq. ft. store with its main entrance on Rafter Street, named after Séamus Rafter, who launched the Gaelic League in Enniscorthy and fought in the 1916 Rising.
Steeped in history.
Enniscorthy is home to Vinegar Hill, Pugin’s Cathedral and the Norman Castle. It is said that rebels held a meeting in the upstairs front room of the original house during the 1798 period.
That same room is now home to our Cookshop, where we now pack the orders for our online store.
“We strive to provide a service quality which is second to none.”
